St Faiths Primary School – New Library

Education, Public

Project Overview

St Faith’s Primary School is located in the centre of Winchester, Hampshire. The project consisted of excavating the existing playground area, forming new foundations and floor. In addition to this, a new cavity wall was also constructed around the perimeter of the existing flat roof. Additional works were required to the roof to ensure the correct U value along with internal works such as decoration and flooring was also required. All management, groundworks and carpentry works were carried out inhouse by DM Habens operatives while additional specialist works were carried out by our specialist sub-contractors such as: –

  • Electrical – BF Keane Ltd
  • Mechanical – MPW Plumbing
  • Flooring – Solent Contract Flooring Ltd
  • Decorations – NSB Decorators Ltd
  • Roofing – Southern Flat Pitched Roofing Ltd
  • Drain Inspections – M&B Drain Services
  • Tarmac – L A Katterhorn & Partners
  • Windows & Doors – Architectural Systems Technology Ltd

The 6 week project was managed on site by Site Agent Robert Wilson and Director of Operations Vishal Patel.

Throughout the project from start to finish both Vishal and Rob went above and beyond what was expected to ensure the project ran smoothly and on time. Both constantly kept Dan updated every day with the progress of works via the site diary, whilst always copying myself into all emails so I could cover and pick up on any bits and pieces if Dan was away. If there was an issue on site, before contacting Dan or myself they would always look to assess if there was an easy solution to suggest before letting us know the issue along with possible solutions. This made the project run extremely smoothly as all parties could easily work together and meant there were no delays waiting for responses. If there were any changes or variations, these were never a problem and were always completed straight away. The standard of workmanship throughout the project was very high and in particular the substructure and brickwork the latter of which was constructed to match the existing building as closely as possible.

At all times both Rob and Vishal were accommodating to the schools needs and requirements especially when there was a Summer Camp at the school and when they returned for the new term. They kept the site clean and tidy at all times and I am aware Rob stayed late on a number of occasions to finish cleaning down the playground so it was ready for the return of the pupils after the Summer break. They were both also very organised with all the direct labour and sub-contractors ensuring these were suitably programmed to attend site to prevent any delays to the works, and Rob was very accommodating if they wanted to start slightly earlier or stay later and was always happy to open up and close up after them. One of the main things that really impressed me was the willingness to help the school. This included allowing them to utilise the Heras Fencing that was on site to help keep the site safe and secure whilst the school were waiting on the new fencing to be installed by a different contractor. This was something that they did not have to do, however they were more than happy to help out and assist which I know was hugely appreciated by the Head Teacher.
