Project Overview

Working with Hampshire County Council, the scheme comprises of the design and construction of a large single classroom extension and minor refurbishment for a Specially Resourced Provision (SRP) at Southcote Primary School, Reading, RG30 3EJ.

Southcote Primary School is a mainstream 3 Form Entry School (630 pupils) which currently provides additional specialist facilities for up to 8 pupils with ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder), within the school. This project aims to provide a more suitable and extended provision for up to 12 pupils, in the location of the existing SRP.

The external timber and polycarbonate structure was demolished and an infill extension of c. 63m² re-provided in its place. In addition to the refurbishment of adjoining rooms including the provision of an accessible WC, infilling of openings, decoration works and the associated required M&E works. Additional fire precautions works also took place to create a 60min compartment line.

External works included new fencing, new tarmac to suit the extension, sleeper wall to suit site topography, relocation of bike shelter and making good of areas as required.

The school remained in occupation for duration of the project, therefore careful consideration was required in relation to the adjoining spaces (including classrooms and school kitchen) and access requirements.
